About the Artist
Patience Appiah Haefliger (Appiah) is a Ghanaian-Swiss artist whose work explores the space between cultures, memory, and emotion. Born in Accra, Ghana, and shaped by life between Accra and Geneva, Switzerland, she developed an early sensitivity to beauty, colour, and storytelling in a home where creativity was encouraged and celebrated.
As a child, Patience loved sketching and creating comic books. Although she later stepped away from painting for many years, art remained part of her inner world. After moving permanently to Switzerland, she rediscovered painting and found in it a place of solace, reflection, and reconnection — a way to honour her heritage, revisit childhood memories, and express what words cannot always hold.
Before dedicating herself fully to art, Patience worked for several years with a specialized United Nations agency in Geneva. That international experience, together with her bicultural life, continues to shape the depth, openness, and humanity of her artistic perspective.
Today, she paints from her studio in the canton of Vaud, Switzerland, creating one-of-a-kind works that celebrate identity, femininity, movement, and human connection. Her visual language moves across continents and sensibilities — from vibrant African scenes and serene Swiss landscapes to intimate portrayals of women and the elegance of golf in motion, a subject inspired by her personal passion for the sport.
Working primarily in oil, gouache, and ink, Patience builds paintings with rich colour, expressive gesture, and layered texture. Each piece is created with care and intention, inviting viewers not only to look, but to feel — to experience warmth, memory, and resonance.
She also creates commissioned works, translating meaningful stories, places, and personal memories into lasting visual legacies.
Signing her work simply as Appiah, she honours her heritage while inviting collectors into what she calls “Painting Between Worlds” — a universe where colour, texture, and story meet in a deeply personal yet universally relatable visual language.
Each piece is created with the philosophy of “Painting Between Worlds”, inviting viewers to travel through memory, emotion, sport, culture, and the shared human experience.
